Pre/Postnatal Strength Instructor Training
Certified Childbirth Educator, Full Spectrum Doula, Prenatal + Postpartum Coach, and E-RPYTT

Exercise has been shown to improve pregnancy and birth for many. But changing bodies often require modified movements. In this training, we’ll learn all about the physical and physiological changes that happen from the 1st trimester through the 4th; modifications to exercise to keep your pregnant and postpartum students safe, and how to use these practices to alleviate common perinatal discomforts and concerns.
You’ll also learn the basics of teaching our unique fitness classes: Pre/Postnatal Pump & Circuit Strength — baby wearing friendly included. In these classes, we combine all types of exercise (including: yoga, weight training, pilates, barre, high & low impact training) WITH our perinatal knowledge to provide exercise classes that can fully support our perinatal students while still giving them a good sweat (which is, YES, totally okay in pregnancy).
Over our 10 hours together, you can expect to learn:
Pregnancy basics by trimester
The birth process, how it impacts recovery + return to exercise
Common perinatal discomforts + conditions
Perinatal hormone, musculoskeletal, respiratory + circulatory changes
Safe exercise modifications & cueing for all stages of pregnancy and postpartum
Pre- and postnatal core work
Exercise adaptations for teaching to a wide variety of stages in a single class

Please note: This group will maintain confidentiality throughout the training — the topic of pregnancy, birth, etc can bring up a lot of emotions so we commit to maintaining a level of comfort and security to ensure the mental health of all those involved.
Training Dates
Parents with babies under crawling are welcome to bring babies with them. Private nursing/pumping and milk storage available.

Katie Painter is a Certified Childbirth Educator, Full Spectrum Doula, Prenatal + Postpartum Coach, and Registered Prenatal/Postnatal Yoga Teacher based in Richmond, Virginia. Before getting into birthwork, Katie worked as a full time personal trainer and group exercise instructor. When she was pregnant for the first time, she saw firsthand just how much bad, outdated information there is out there for people trying to exercise while pregnant and early postpartum. Eight years later, Katie has helped support hundreds of new parents through childbirth classes, prenatal, postpartum, and recovery exercise, and as a doula. Now, Katie is excited to help train a new set of instructors to support even more pregnant and postpartum families.
